Unicom was initially recognised as meeting the Customer Service Excellence standard in October 2009, and was further successfully assessed in 2010, 2011, and 2012. The Customer Service Excellence standard is a Government standard only awarded to companies that test in great depth the areas research has shown are a priority for customers, focusing in particular on delivery, timeliness, information, professionalism and staff attitude. Unicom was the first telecommunication company to achieve this award.
In September 2009 Unicom was evaluated against the Customer First standard and was found to have met all required criteria within the standard. Unicom was again successfully assessed to the standard in 2011. Customer First is a national standard for customer service and is only awarded to companies who can demonstrate successful customer relationships, keen market awareness and the ability to recruit and develop the best staff for the job.
