Friday 4th July 2014 - Unicom Continues to Reduce Manchesters Long Term Unemployment Recruiting Through Back 2 Work Complete Training

Small business telecoms and utilities firm, Unicom, continues to recruit through the government run organisation, Back 2 Work Complete Training, reducing Manchester’s long term unemployment.

Unicom is one of the UK's leading telecoms and utility providers. It specialises in the small to medium-sized business market, currently providing telecoms, broadband, mobiles, gas and electricity services to over 100,000 UK business customers. Employing over 500 people nationwide Unicom is heavily committed to supporting the communities in which it operates.

Partnering with Back 2 Work Complete Training in August 2013, Unicom aimed to provide employment opportunities for job seekers, as it looked to recruit for up to 40 new utility telesales positions. Filling just under half of the positions available the partnership was proven a great success and Unicom has continued to recruit for telesales positions through Back 2 Work monthly, providing valuable career opportunities for Manchester’s long term unemployed.

Back 2 Work Compete Training work with the Department of Work and Pensions and Job Centres to provide job seekers the training needed to enter into full time employment, whilst answering organisations recruitment needs. Specialising in Sales, Service and Contact Centre Sectors they boast an impressive success rate with 67% of all learners completing a training course going into permanent contracted employment.

Johnny Shamin (Head of Utility Sales) said “Working with Back 2 Work has proven invaluable to Unicom. They provide us with a skilled workforce whilst enabling us to support the greater Manchester community employing people who have been struggling to find work for a considerable amount of time. We will continue to recruit through the scheme as it has been a proven success for us.”

Sandy Stewart had been looking for work for 6 months before attending the training course and is now one of the company’s most successful utility sales agents “The training was very motivational and positive. We learnt telephone skills and how to work as a team, now I have a new career path!”

John Daly (Utility Sales Agent) “There should be more schemes like this. With just 10 days training I have now been with the company for over 10 months and some routine back in my life.”
